Hi Bob, Just wanted to let you know that I "graduated" from Florida Proton treatment at the UFPTI on July 19, 2007. What a great experience the treatment process was. I almost hated to leave! The people are great, the caregivers and staff are the best one could wish for in any treatment. I went in with a PSA of 11.69 and left with a PSA of 8.0! This process was so comfortable it was embarrassing to tell people back home I was being treated for Prostate Cancer. Then when they saw me on my return home, all tanned and full of energy, they couldn't believe I wasn't on vacation. Matter of fact I'm having a hard time believing it also.
I want to thank you and those before you for discussing trettments with me before I started. You were all correct, it was a piece of Cake! You have my permission to use me as a referral for anyone needing to discuss the process. I have become a town cryer for Proton radiation treatment. I bought two more copies of Bob Marckini's book for our town Library. I'll be telling everyone I meet about this process.

Hi Bob, I was at UFPTI for my six month post treatment checkup on Monday July 30th, and saw all the new faces. The library now has two computers for the patients to use and more books than will fit on the shelf.
I saw Dr. Vargas and Nurse Connie and I also had a good report. My PSA was 8.2 when I started treatments back in November of 2006 and my three month and six month readings were 1.5.
I, like you feel that we made a very wise decision to have Proton Treatment and I'm grateful we found out about it when we did. I have sent two patients to Dr. Vargas. One starts treatment on Monday and the other will start very soon. It sure was easy to sell them on the Proton option.
I hope all is going well for you and your wife.
Thanks for the great news letter.
Hi Bob, I completed the last of my 41 Proton Beam treatments at UFPTI in Jacksonville, FL. on Feb.05, 2007. At the time I started my P.S.A. was 11.6 and with a Gleason score of 6. Three months after the last treatment my P.S.A. had dropped to 3.2 and now at six months it is 2.5.
My Urologist had advised me to just wait and watch for a while and decide the course later. But after thinking of my father and grandfather both dying of Prostate cancer I started looking for other alternatives. Luck was with me and I heard about the work being done with the Proton Beam. The Jacksonville facility was under construction and after talking with Dr. Vargas, I was placed on the waiting list. Everyone there was so pleasant and helpful that it made the whole procedure enjoyable. I have had no side effects and with the help of Flomax, I feel as good as or better than before the treatments. I drove to Jacksonville from Daytona Beach each day for all the treatments and felt great the whole time. This treatment also works for older men as I turned 87 in July.

I completed my Proton Therapy treatments on 02/04/07 and I must admit I felt "lost" for a while. I can tell you I 'm a big fan of "Proton Beam Therapy"!
