Since my final treatment of Proton Therapy for Prostate Cancer on January 04, 2007 I have gone back to the UFPTI several times for the Monday lunch get together for past, present and future patients. Each time that I go back for a visit I am amazed at the progress that UFPTI has made since opening their doors to the first patient on August 14, 2006. All three gantries are now in operation and treatments have emerged from one patient per day with their first patient to 45 patients being treated daily. Of the 45 patients being treated, 35 are for Prostate Cancer. Plans are for the facility to go to a double shift with treatments of 60 plus patients being treated daily per shift. A big congratulation to the entire UFPTI Staff.
UFPTI and Gerry Troy held a reunion on April 16, 2007 for five patients that were celebrating their 6-month, after treatment PSA results, of which all had very low PSA results. In honor of the reunion, they celebrated at Workman's by having a taste test of their famous doughnuts. Congratulations guys.
A coffee shop will be coming in the very near future, thanks to one of the patients, who donated the funding for the coffee shop. The coffee shop will be serving regular coffee, de-cafe coffee, tea and water. There will also be juice for the pediatric patients. The coffee shop will also have a small refrigerator for bagels and such.
